Geochemical Data

Routinely, the studies on core, cuttings and thin-sections can be supported by complementary geochemical studies as well. In association with a number of companies specialized in chemostratigraphy studies or in rental equipment adequate for that, McLeay Geological can provide the following services in the field as well as our office or labs in Calgary:

X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) –

Semi quantitative analysis providing a precise identification of mineralogic composition for petrographic correlations as well as identification of interstitial clays, estimation of porosity and permeability, etc.

X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) –

Used for chemical analysis of rocks, minerals, sediments and fluids and as materials are excited with high energy radiation, the resulting fluorescent X rays can be used to detect the elements present in the sample.

Total Organic Carbon (TOC) –

Quantitative analysis measuring the amount of organic carbon in water as well as in soil and geological formations and particular in source rocks.

IsoTubes –

Used to collect mud gas samples for isotopic analysis in order to recognize the origin of gases, their association with oils, identification or reservoir compartments, correlation of fluids between wells, etc.

IsoJars –

Containers used for collecting solid or liquid samples such as soil, mud, rock, water, oil, etc., for the purpose of analysis of the contained materials and/or of the entrapped gases.
